1.1 Which is better: Keyprof Luke or the local locksmith?

Especially if you only have one key left, we recommend that you try a local locksmith first. However, modern keys require expensive, specialized equipment and many locksmiths do not have this. Keyprof Luke is a specialized automotive locksmith.

1.2 Do I really have to send my key?

Yes, with a key blank you cannot open or start your car. When you send your key to us, then we will cut and program your new key for you. Your new key will then be fully usable. You receive your old key back together with your new one, of course.

1.3 Can you duplicate all modern keys?

No, we are able to duplicate about half of all modern keys. It depends on the type of transponderchip in the key. For some types access to the car is required. We only duplicate keys that do not need access to the car.

1.4 Why don't you sell keys with remote control?

Often it is necassary to connect diagnistic equipment to the car to program the remote into the car. We do sell empty key shells. You transfer the transponderchip and the remote control circuit to the new shell yourself.

1.5 I have a motorcycle, instead of a car.

We do not have a wizard for motorcycles. We ask you to contact us through our contact form and let us know the make, model and year of manufacture. Note: was your motorcycle build in 1995 or before? Then you probably have a traditional cylinder key and then you should go here: Key Order Forms.

1.6 Do you have a store?

We do not have a store, but sell at classic car fairs. Here you find our Classic Car Fair Calendar. We also sell modern keys at fairs and these are ready to use.

2. Questions about the Wizard

2.1 My make/model is not listed in the wizard.

The wizard is based on data from Silca, de largest manufacturer of after-market keys in the world. If your key does not appear, then an after-market solution is not yet available. You will need to go to a car dealership. This would be more expensive then an after-market solution.

2.2 How can I check that I am ordering the right key?

You cannot check the transponderchip, but you can check the blade. The blade is the metal part that gets inserted into the keyhole. Use the small blade number image. Place the tip (bottom) on the blank number image. The blade has to match the image. Do not look at the blade by pointing it towards you, because then you will see it as a mirror image. The larger image of the key does not always correspond with the key you will be receiving. The image is only indicative.

2.3 Sometimes more than one key is displayed.

First see if the blade, transponder and price are the same. If this is the case, then it does not matter which key you select. Otherwise you might be dealing with a transition year. The car manufacturer sometimes starts building a new version of a particular model in the course of the year. The order version is build before the Summer period and the newer version is build after the Summer holiday. During the Summer months the production shuts down and the factory is re-tooled. The manufacture date in your vehicle registration can be a good indication. To find out for sure which type of transponderchip is in your key, your key needs to be read with a transpondermachine.

2.4 Under transponder it says "no transponder".

This means your key does not contain a transponderchip. If you have a cylinder key without a transponderchip, then you can use one of these Key Order Forms.

2.5 The key shown looks different from my own key.

You will be receiving a key without remote control and it will look different from your original key. The images are only indicative.

2.6 How reliable is your wizard?

The wizard is based on data from a leading manufacturer of after-market keys and we think the data is as accurate as possible. Keyprof Luke cannot be held liable for costs or damage arising from incorrect information.
